Travis Hencey
Instructional Resources Coordinator
Travis Hencey was born and raised in Chadron. He graduated from CSC with a BA in Studio Art in 2009 and then again with a BS in K-12 Art Education in 2015. Over the years, Travis held multiple positions with Chadron State College working around the field of online learning on a variety of learning management systems. From 2015-2024, Travis was a public school teacher at Riverside Public Schools and Chadron Public Schools where he taught visual art, graphic design, and multimedia production classes. Having taught through the coronavirus pandemic, Travis rediscovered the importance of preparing both teachers and students with the necessary skills to learn, work, and live in a world that is increasingly online.
Travis is passionate about higher-order thinking skills in the classroom as a method to boost student engagement in learning. Authentic creativity being a key component of his teaching philosophy, he is a curious user of artificial intelligence as a tool and wonders about its effects on human thought and production going forward.
Outside of the office, Travis produces mixed-media artworks that have been shown in galleries throughout the region and he is an active volunteer for Chadron’s Art Alley murals project.
