What is Multifactor Authentication?

Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is one of the best methods available to prevent identity theft, compromised accounts, and automated password attacks. MFA is protection to the Microsoft 365 (M365) cloud services including Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.  When logging in with MFA, you must supply your credentials and additionally prove that you are in possession of a trusted device (i.e. mobile phone).  Due to the ongoing threat of internet based data breaches, it is a requirement at Chadron State College that MFA is enabled when accessing Microsoft 365 accounts and applications.

Set Up Multifactor Authentication

It is always recommended that the Authenticator app on a phone or tablet is used as your primary method of Multifactor Authentication. Below are detailed instructions on how to set up various methods for MFA.

Step 1 - Download the Microsoft Authenticator App from either the Google Play or App Store by scanning the appropriate QR code below or visiting https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/mobile-authenticator-app

Security Fob

Chadron State College recommends using the Authenticator app for MFA. However, if a phone is not available, a security fob can be used.
Yubico is our recommended fob and can be purchased at the below resource.
