CHADRON – The Chadron State Foundation has selected Scott Kruger as its Chief Executive Officer.

Kruger, who will co-host an alumni social with CSC President Ron K. Patterson Wednesday in Chadron, is excited to help the college advance its mission and accomplish fundraising goals.

“Chadron State College is a truly special place. CSC not only transforms the lives of its students but also strengthens the entire region. The college’s commitment to leadership, learning, and community engagement really speaks to me, and I’m honored to help build on that legacy through the Foundation,” Kruger said.

Kruger brings two decades of experience in philanthropic leadership, securing transformational gifts, leading comprehensive fundraising campaigns, and expanding donor networks. His professional background includes successfully aligning fundraising strategies with institutional priorities, strengthening alumni relations, and increasing philanthropic support for scholarships, faculty development, and campus improvements. He has raised more than $125 million from individuals and organizations, developed partnerships to drive institutional growth, and provided professional development for staff and board members.

Kruger has worked with both public and private colleges and has experience leading fundraising initiatives that sparked institutional growth and student success. Most recently, Kruger was a Vice President and Consultant for Fundraising Management at Ruffalo Noel Levitz. Prior to his time at RNL, he served as the Executive Director for a community-based economic development organization in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He also worked as the Executive Director of Development at the University of Iowa for its College of Law. While at Iowa, Kruger led fundraising efforts within a $1.7 billion comprehensive campaign where major gift contributions increased by 50 percent.

Kruger said he is a strong advocate for the role of regional public universities and understands the impact institutions like CSC have on workforce development and economic growth.

Kruger, who was born in Minnesota and grew up in Iowa, earned his degrees from the University of Iowa. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and a Juris Doctorate in Nonprofit Law and Management.

Kruger said he plans to build upon the Chadron State Foundation’s successful fundraising and development campaigns in the past, while maintaining the college’s rich tradition as a community cornerstone.

“When you visit Chadron, you feel immediately that CSC is more than just a college - it’s a close-knit community where integrity, innovation, and student success come first,” he said. “I’m excited to work alongside the dedicated supporters of the Chadron State Foundation to grow its impact and help shape a bright future for the college and its students.”

The Chadron State Foundation raises money to support Chadron State College and provides scholarship and program support for students. As of June 2024, the Foundation has $32.5 million in endowment funds and more than $34 million in assets.
