CHADRON – The U.S. Air Force Academy Band’s Falconaires will present a free, public concert at the Chadron State College Memorial Hall Auditorium on March 8 at 7 p.m. Tickets are not required and doors will open at 6 p.m.

The Falconaires have brought the sounds of big-band jazz to international audiences for more than 50 years. The jazz ensemble is a 19-piece big band of active-duty professional airmen-musicians who tour the country performing classic jazz, including familiar hits from acts such as Count Basie, Stan Kenton, and Glenn Miller, as well as new music written especially for this ensemble.

According to a release from the U.S. Air Force, the only musical genre that can trace its heritage back to the American military band is the big band. Made popular by its mainstream appeal during WWII, the big band continues to present a sound and excitement unmatched by any other musical ensemble.

Technical Sergeant Benjamin Paille, tour manager of The Falconaires, said the concert came about when the group realized CSC is midway between their planned tour dates in Rapid City and Colorado Springs. The concert at CSC is provided free as a community service, according to Music Professor Dr. Rick Puzzo. For more information, contact Paille at benjamin.paille@us.af.mil.
