CHADRON – The Campus Activities Board (CAB) approved a new club, Coddiwomplers, at Chadron State College.

The slang word coddiwomple means to travel purposefully towards a vague or unknown destination, according to an online travel site. The new club decided to name themselves Coddiwomplers after completing an online search for different terms meaning to travel.

The club was inspired by a Residence Life Association (RLA) event organized by Assistant Director of Residence Life and the club’s advisor, Peyton Johansen. He arranged a trip to Jewel Cave and Mount Rushmore in October 2024. The trip was successful and some of the students who participated decided to start a travel club.

The club consists of approximately 30 members including President Wrylee Osterhaus of Blair, Neb., Vice President Mollie Beach of Evergreen, Colo., Treasurer Emma Codr of Lincoln, and Secretary Cayden Carrasco of Sidney, Neb.

Coddiwompler members aim to provide unique experiences for CSC students.

“We are hoping to offer Chadron State College students the chance to travel and explore destinations that align with their interests and aspirations, providing opportunities they may not otherwise have access to,” Osterhaus said.

The club is planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park, while also organizing various events on campus to disseminate their information.

Coddiwomplers is looking for more active club members. For more information, email Osterhaus at wrylee.osterhaus@eagles.csc.edu or Johansen at pjohansen@csc.edu.
