CSC shows winning hand for 'Casino Night' Homecoming

CHADRON – Chadron State College will celebrate its annual Homecoming with a variety of events during the week beginning Oct. 15.

The week of activities, following the theme of Casino Night, kicks off with a free bowling night at Hilltop Lanes Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. The event includes free pizza and drinks for CSC students.

Activities on Oct. 16 include, a pickleball tournament at the Chadron Municipal Tennis Courts at 5 p.m. At the same time, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will host Casino Night in The Pit.

The Coronation of Homecoming Royalty and a pep rally is set for Oct. 17 at Beebe Stadium at 6:30 p.m. The coronation will feature performances from the pep band, CSC Spirit, and the Eagle Drum Line before the ceremony. Following the ceremony, attendees can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and participate in the annual Lighting of C-Hill.  

To continue the celebration, Night of Country Swing will host a dance that evening in the Backyard, featuring a bonfire.

On Oct. 18, a star party and planetarium show will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Attendees will be able to try liquid nitrogen ice cream served by the Chemistry Club. Also on Friday, The Pit will host a Silent Disco in the Hub from 7 to 10 p.m.

The annual Homecoming Parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 19. Parade entries will begin at 10th St. and make their way north on Main St. No registration or fee is required; all entries and floats will be arranged by the time of their arrival and are asked to line-up on the north side of East 12th St.

The Homecoming football game against Fort Lewis College at Elliott Field will kick off at 1 p.m., featuring tailgating spots for fans and a sidewalk chalk competition.

CSC Alumni receiving awards at a Saturday luncheon include Distinguished Young Alumni recipients Ryan Morgan and Alyssa Sanders. Dr. Jake Kirkland will be honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award, and the Studnicka Family will be honored with the Family Tree Award.

Homecoming excitement continues into Oct. 20 with a scavenger hunt. Additionally, the Education department will host a showing of The Hate U Give from 7 to 9 p.m. to prepare for author Angie Thomas’s visit to campus on Oct. 29.

On Oct. 21, the Health Professions Club/Red Cross Blood Drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.

The festivities wrap up on Tuesday with a volleyball match at 6 p.m. when the Eagles host Colorado Mesa University at the Chicoine Center.
