Chadron State College hosts annual Art Day
CHADRON – More than 70 high school students from several area schools attended Chadron State College’s annual Art Day Tuesday.
This year’s event featured a range of workshops, including sessions on graphic design, drawing temporary tattoos, ceramics, photography, printmaking, architecture, sculpture, graphic novel design, and painting. The workshops were led by Professor Mary Donahue, Associate Professor Trudy Denham, Adjunct Instructor Dewayne Gimeson, Professor Laura Bentz, Adjunct Instructor Jack Kant, and CSC Art students Marissa Borchard, Kalen Lotton, Angelyse Perez, Maya Goss, and Raquel Moore.
The instructors were assisted by CSC Art majors, providing students with additional guidance and support during the hands-on sessions.
In addition to the workshops, attendees had the opportunity to view a retrospective exhibit of work by CSC art faculty in the Main Gallery of Memorial Hall.
Borchard, an Art Education major, led her first Art Day course, teaching students how to draw temporary tattoos.
“Art Day is a great test run for when I will be student teaching next semester,” Borchard said. “I plan to teach at the high school level, so it’s great practice.”
Kathy Brock, an art instructor at Alliance High School and a Chadron State College alum, has attended Art Day for 12 years and brings new students every year.
“I love it. It’s my favorite day of the year,” Brock said. “It’s a good experience for them. The students who went the year before always beg to come back.”
In addition to Alliance, students from Bayard, Oelrichs, S.D., Gering, Hemingford, Bridgeport, Phillip, S.D., Mitchell, Sioux County, and Gordon-Rushville also attended Art Day.
