Area schools compete well at annual CSC Scholastic Contest

CHADRON – More than 900 high school students from across the region participated in Chadron State College’s 61st annual Scholastic Contest Wednesday.

A plaque will be awarded to the top school in each division. First place winners among junior and senior high students each receive a Scholastic Achievement Award of $500, which serves as a non-renewable, non-transferable tuition waiver.

Winners of each test will receive a CSC sweatshirt, and medals will be awarded to the top three in each test. Those finishing in the top 25 percent will earn certificates of merit, and all participants will receive certificates of participation.

In Division I, Scottsbluff claimed first, breaking Stevens High School’s 11-year win streak. Stevens High School, located in Rapid City, South Dakota, placed second, and Gering was third.

Chadron took first in Division II, and Sidney placed second.

In Division III, Bridgeport secured first place, followed by St. Thomas More High School in second, and Burns, located in Wyoming, was third. South Platte, Valentine, Gordon-Rushville, Bennett County, Mitchell, Ainsworth, and Hemingford followed in the rankings.

Hay Springs High School won first in Division IV, Garden County was second, and Niobrara County finished third. Bayard and Morrill placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

In Division V, Rock County High School in Bassett finished first, followed by Sioux County in second, Cody-Kilgore was third. Keya Paha County, Leyton, Crawford, Mullen and Hulett followed in the rankings.
