CHADRON – Chadron State College is offering students access to Handshake, a free online job-seeking platform. Students can use Handshake to share their resumes with potential employers, secure job interviews, and read articles with helpful hints.

According to Deena Kennell, Director of Internships and Career Services, students are invited to download the app and create a profile. Once those steps are complete, students will receive personalized job recommendations. They can also communicate with employers to learn more about company culture and apply for positions.

Kennell said Handshake is more intimate than other large platforms.

“I want students to realize Handshake is legitimate and encourage them to create their profiles, even if they aren't getting ready to graduate yet,” Kennell said.

Posters on campus, social media posts, and presentations in classes and residence halls are planned to help increase awareness about the service, Kennell said.

Handshake is integrated with ConnectCSC, an online platform recently announced by the Chadron State Foundation that connects CSC alumni and students for professional development and career opportunities.

Foundation CEO Ben Watson said one of many value-added aspects of Handshake is that employers have the ability to filter searches by institution, selecting CSC, for example. He also said Handshake is commonly used by administrators in charge of hiring for K-12 school districts.

Employers posting jobs on Handshake represent career paths in technology, media, finance, marketing, education, and government. The website includes testimonials, career tips about top companies hiring students, finding remote jobs, composing resumes and cover letters, networking, internships, interview tips, industry trends, labor market updates, and other pertinent topics.
