Campus evacuation lifted

Update as of 7:48 p.m.

Chadron State College is no longer under an evacuation order. College officials and law enforcement lifted the evacuation order at 7:45 p.m. Friday evening.

Local law enforcement and Campus Security, as well as the Nebraska State Patrol, searched the entire campus and found no evidence of a threat. The residence halls are now open and college business can resume. 

"I want to thank the students and employees who took this threat seriously and did the right thing by evacuating campus in a safe manner," said CSC President Randy Rhine. "I am so glad we did not find anything and I truly appreciate the help law enforcement provided. They all responded quickly and worked efficiently to get our campus back to normal."

 

Update as of 3:55 p.m.

Chadron State College is still evacuated and tonight’s campus events, including the women’s and men’s basketball games, are canceled.

Shortly before 3 p.m., campus officials were notified by the call center they had received a phone call claiming a bomb was on campus. Currently, the Chadron Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Dawes County Sheriff's Office, Campus Security, and other law enforcement agencies are actively searching campus. When more information is known, it will be shared.

 

Update as of 3:44 p.m.

Chadron State College notified students and employees to evacuate immediately based on a report of a dangerous situation on/near campus. If students did not have a safe place to go off campus, they were directed to go to the Assumption Arena. More information will be provided when it is known.
