CHADRON – About 30 local middle school and high school students will be competing in the Western District Division of National History Day Friday. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s contest will be virtual.

The theme for documentaries, exhibits, papers, performances, and websites is Communication in History: The Key to Understanding.

According to Kate Pope, Project Coordinator and District Judging Coordinator, students will compete as either a junior (grades 6-8) or senior (grades 9-12). Students can participate individually or as part of a group of five or fewer. Top competitors advance to the state competition, which will also be virtual.

Pope said the students conduct extensive research related to the theme and present their findings while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The public can view the results on the CSC History page after Monday, March 8.

For more details, call Pope at 308-432-7079 or e-mail kdpope@csc.edu.
