CHADRON – In December, Chadron State College cadets in the Army ROTC, who will graduate in May, received their branching or specialty assignments.

Dick M. Mendenhall, Professor of Military Science, said this is an important step in the future officers’ careers.

Cadets from CSC were awarded their top choices based on their above national average performance in the Order of Merit Score (OMS). The OMS system is a composite of multiple factors such as academics, language and cultural awareness, Leadership Outcomes from campus ROTC and extracurricular activities, and physical fitness during their time with the ROTC program.

The following students will be going into active duty: Tristan Kreb of Chadron, chemical corp, and Calvin DePriest of Omaha, artillery.

Konery Klueber of Rapid City, S.D., will be assigned to military intelligence with the South Dakota Army National Guard (SDARNG), Kalli Talbot of Rapid City, S.D., will be assigned to military police with the SDARNG, and Colton Alexander of Bridgeport, Neb., will be assigned to aviation with the Nebraska Army National Guard.

Mendenhall said the branching selections are a result of the cadets’ hard work and the quality of cadet they represent.

“For these cadets to receive their top choices in a field of approximately 6,500 cadets simply speaks to the quality of leaders they are and the potential for service to our country that they represent. I am just so lucky I get to be part of their organization and the entire CSC team,” Mendenhall said.
