Green to receive Distinguished Young Alumni Award

CHADRON – Dr. Jennifer Green, Associate Professor at Michigan State University, will receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award during Chadron State College’s Homecoming. Other Distinguished Young Alumni honorees include Whitney Campbell and Hilary A. Catron. Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will be Mack Rawhouser and Stephanie (Olson) Dantzler.

The Distinguished Young Alumni Award is presented to CSC alumni 40 years of age or younger who have distinguished themselves in their chosen career or community or shown exceptional service to the college.

Green graduated from CSC in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education. She worked at the University of Nebraska Lincoln as a graduate teaching assistant and graduate research assistant while earning her Master of Science in Statistics in 2006 and doctorate in Statistics in 2010.

For three years, she served as a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska Lincoln before becoming an Assistant Professor in 2013, and an Associate Professor in 2018 at Montana State University. In 2020, she joined Michigan State University as an Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics and Probability and the Program in Mathematics Education.

She has received numerous honors and awards including the College of Letters and Science Outstanding Teaching Award from Montana State University and the Ron Wasserstein Award for Best Contributed Paper Sponsored by the Statistical Education Section at the 2018 Joint Statistical Meetings from the American Statistical Association.

Additionally, Green has written many research grants to explore effective communication, teaching, and learning in mathematics and statistics. She contributed to several publications and manuscripts and serves as a section editor for the Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education.

She presented at numerous conferences across the U.S. and abroad, including the U.S. Conference on Teaching Statistics, the International Conference of the ERCIM Working Group on Computational and Methodological Statistics, and the Expanding Your Horizons Conference.

Green lives in Haslett, Michigan, with her husband, Joe, and two daughters, Brianna and Lily.
