Catron to receive Distinguished Young Alumni Award

CHADRON – Chadron State College graduate Hilary A. Catron, a supervisor in the Nebraska Medicine Department of Clinical Nutrition, will receive a Distinguished Young Alumni Award during Homecoming. Other Distinguished Young Alumni Award recipients include Whitney Campbell and Dr. Jennifer Green. Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will be Stephanie (Olson) Dantzler and Mack Rawhouser.

Catron graduated from CSC in 1999 as an Outstanding General Biology Graduate. She went on to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and earned a Master of Science in Nutrition in 2003. Afterward, she served as an Extension Specialist for the Nutrition Education Program.

She worked as a Teaching and Research Graduate Assistant at UNL from 2006 to 2009 and completed a Dietetic internship with the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha from 2008 to 2009. From 2009 to 2010 she participated in the Leadership Education Neurodevelopmental and Related Disorders program and concurrently worked as a Medical Nutrition Therapist at Nebraska Medicine.

Catron serves a dual role at Nebraska Medicine/UNMC as supervisor for the Clinical Nutrition Department and as a Registered Dietitian/Medical Nutrition Therapist for the Adult Intestinal Rehabilitation Program. 

In 2019, she joined the Zealand Pharmaceutical Short Bowel Syndrome International Expert Committee. She has contributed to publications and poster presentations on the subjects of nutrient metabolism, parenteral nutrition management, and the management of Short Bowel Syndrome.

Catron has guest lectured at the Nebraska Association of Family Physicians Annual Meeting, UNMC, and the Monroe-Meyer Institute Muscular Dystrophy Association Symposium. In 2013, she received the University of Nebraska Department of Family Medicine’s Teacher of the Year award.

She volunteers with the Nebraska Sports Council as a Sport Director for the Cornhusker State Games Taekwondo competition and has the rank of Sixth Degree Black Belt through the Universal Taekwondo Association.
