Campbell to receive Distinguished Young Alumni Award

CHADRON – Whitney Campbell, the current Manager of Community Engagement for the Oakland Athletics, will receive a Chadron State College Distinguished Young Alumni Award during Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 9. Other DYA honorees include Hilary A. Catron and Dr. Jennifer Green. Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will be Mack Rawhouser and Stephanie (Olson) Dantzler.

Campbell graduated in 2008 with bachelor’s degrees in Recreation, Sports Leadership and General Business with an emphasis in Marketing. She received a basketball scholarship and played for the Eagles from 2004 to 2006. Campbell studied abroad her last semester in Wollongong, Australia.

In 2009, Campbell’s passion for sports led her to work as a ticketing and merchandise manager for the Casper Ghosts, a rookie affiliate of the Colorado Rockies in the Pioneer League. She went on to work for the Quad Cities River Bandits in 2010 as a Community Engagement and Merchandise Manager in Davenport, Iowa.

Campbell moved to California and worked for the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies Baseball Club from 2012 to 2019 as the Director of Community Engagement and Events. During her time with the Grizzlies, Campbell and the Junior Grizzlies baseball program provided recreational opportunities for young players with disabilities at the Field of Dreams facility.

She was also involved in the Grizzlies’ elementary student reading program, Wild About Reading, which tracks children’s hours spent reading outside the classroom. In 2017, the program reached the one-million student milestone.

In 2019, Campbell moved to Major League Baseball when she took her position with the Oakland A’s. The programs she leads focuses on education, youth sports, and civic service.

She lives in Lafayette, California, with her husband, Kyle.
