CHADRON – Like many spring events in 2020, the Rising Sophomore Awards were canceled due to COVID-19, however, despite social distancing, the program still recognized students who will be CSC sophomores in the fall. Certificates were mailed to award winners with a letter from Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. James Powell, who helped establish the ceremony five years ago.

This year, the Rising Sophomore committee purchased a trophy for the Young Eagle award winner. According to committee member Jen Schaer, a permanent plaque will be placed in the Student Center and engraved each year with the name of the Young Eagle  recipient.

Committee member Heather Crofutt said the plaque listing award winners’ names will help encourage student leadership, hard work and dedication.

The Rising Sophomore event will return in the spring of 2021.
