New certificate and options approved at recent board meeting

The Board also recognized Teaching Excellence Award winner Dr. Beth Wentworth, a retired Math professor, at a dinner Thursday evening.

During its business meeting, the Board approved a new undergraduate certificate and two options for CSC students that will be offered beginning in the fall of 2021. The undergraduate certificate, Unmanned Aircraft Systems for Remote Sensing, is an addition for the Rangeland Management program. According to Board materials, the certificate will prepare students to operate unmanned aircraft systems for a variety of agricultural missions, including surveying pastures, mapping plant health, checking water damage and cattle watering stations.

The two new options are Musical Theatre and Strength and Conditioning. The Bachelor of Arts option in Musical Theatre is intended for students who plan to pursue a performance career in musical theatre. The Strength and Conditioning option within the Bachelor of Arts in Sports and Recreation Management will provide students an opportunity to become eligible for earning professional certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

The Board also received information on various items affecting the State Colleges, including personnel actions, capital construction quarterly reports, and year-end financial reports.

The Board of Trustees’ next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 12 at Wayne State College.
