LINCOLN – Two collaborative opportunities highlighted the recent Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees’ meeting Jan. 14 in Lincoln.

A Memorandum of Agreement between Chadron State College and Western Nebraska Community College, as well as the addition of a shared nutrition and dietetics bachelor’s program at CSC and Wayne State, were both approved.

The MOA between CSC and WNCC outlines goals for each institution as they work together to develop programs, assist the transfer of students, and other collaborative items such as recruiting, advising, financial aid, resources, and retention efforts.

“This agreement with WNCC goes to the heart of our 2019-23 Master Academic Plan as it will help CSC continue to meet the needs of the people and the region,” said Chadron State College Vice President for Academic Affairs Jim Powell.

The collaborative nutrition and dietetics program will be available at Chadron State and Wayne State, face-to-face as well as online.

According to a press release from the NSCS, the primary goal for this new Nutrition and Dietetics program is to prepare graduates to earn the Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) credential, which will allow them to either enter the workforce or enroll in a graduate level nutrition program after the completion of the program. In addition, the offering of a number of the required nutrition courses online will allow individuals across the state to complete pre-dietetics courses currently required for admission to accredited graduate programs in this field.

The Board also approved revisions to several Board policies governing Academic and Personnel items, Student Affairs, Marketing, and Enrollment, and Fiscal, Facilities and Audit.

Additionally, the Board approved two audits, the continuation of bookstore contracts, fee recommendations, and room and board rates for 2020-21.

At the close of the meeting, each college President gave a report, as well as Chancellor Paul Turman. The next Board of Trustees’ meeting is April 23-24 at Peru State College.
