Board of Trustees host first videoconference meeting
The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees had its April 23 business meeting through videoconference – a first for the state colleges and its governing board. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Nebraska’s efforts to limit the number of individuals in close proximity, Gov. Pete Ricketts issued Executive Order 20-03 which allows public bodies to conduct their open meetings through remote electronic means.
The Board approved several agenda items during its meeting and received information about various matters from college and System Office personnel.
The Board approved a Teaching Excellence Award recipient from each college. Chadron State College’s nominee is Dr. Beth Wentworth, professor of Mathematics. During the meeting, Wentworth was announced as the recipient of the award. CSC faculty have won the award six of the past nine years.
The other nominees include Peru State’s Dr. Darolyn Seay, associate professor or Education, and Wayne State’s Dr. Don Hickey, professor of History.
The Board approved 2.5 percent salary increases to non-union faculty, professional and support staff employees. Additionally, the Board approved 2.5 percent salary increases to employees covered by NAPE/AFSCME, NSCPA, and SCEA bargaining agreements.
In light of the current public health crisis, the Board also approved modifying the college’s leave sharing program and made adjustments to various policies dealing with employees and students. The Board also reviewed the five year academic calendar.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the NSCS Chancellor and college presidents provided reports to board members. The next meeting is scheduled for June 16 in Lincoln.
