CHADRON – NASA Nebraska announced May 20 is the application deadline for all the Space Grant Fellowship, Higher Education Mini-Grants, and Research Mini-Grants.

As one of 11 academic affiliates statewide, Chadron State College is guaranteed one NASA Nebraska Space Grant Fellowship. Fellowships for aerospace-related research are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students, especially underrepresented students and females, with an interest in working for NASA or the aerospace industry. The fellowship requires U.S. citizenship and the application is available online.

Two Chadron State College students recently completed NASA Nebraska fellowships. They are Jessica Rowshandel of Encino, California, and Isaac Langan of McCook, Nebraska. Rowshandel studied analog mapping sites in the U.S. that mimic NASA’s Mars 2020 landing site and Langan researched nitrate, arsenic, and uranium levels in water wells near Crawford, Nebraska.

NASA Higher Education Mini-Grants, with funding up to $8,000, are available to faculty for innovative projects and programs that will recruit or develop students in aerospace-related fields at the college level, and encourage them to pursue careers in these fields. The grants are designed to develop the future aerospace workforce, especially underrepresented students and females. Mini-grant funding is not limited to U.S. citizens.

Research Mini-Grants, with funding up to $10,000,provide Nebraska faculty researchers with support for aerospace-related research to build ties with NASA scientists and conduct research important to NASA. The grants aim to elevate the aerospace-related research conducted in Nebraska for infrastructure building and workforce development opportunities.
