Health Professions students visit UNMC
CHADRON – Twenty-five Chadron State College Health Professions students, accompanied by Dr. Ann Buchmann and Dr. Wendy Jamison, attended sessions about health careers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center Sept. 24 and 25 in Omaha.
The CSC students who attended the sessions are all from Nebraska. They are: Emma Alexander and Colton Peckham of Sidney, Nicole Barker of Bayard, Quentin Baxter of Bridgeport, Evelyn Causgrove of Nebraska City, Madison Coulter of Gothenburg, Megan Erickson of Bassett, McKinna Faulkenberry of Randolph, RaeAnn Heapy of Curtis, Alexis Heller of Pilger, Samantha Hipke of Spencer, Katelyn Keffeler and Kate Reed of Holdrege, Abigail Klammer of Juniata, Abigail Kring of North Platte, Joss Linse of Plattsmouth, Thea McFarland of Wausa, Lindsay Scanlan of Kearney, Joel Schroeder of Paxton, Brittney Spreier of Gering, Samantha Stowell of Callaway, Tucker Vahle of Grand Island, Eve Vanderneck of Henderson, Christa Wentworth of Emmet, and Kassandra Wetovick of Wood River.
Each year, students enrolled in the Public Health Early Admissions Student Track, the Rural Health Opportunities Program, and the Kearney Health Opportunities Program visit UNMC, according to Nikki Carritt, deputy director of the Nebraska Area Health Education Center Program.
During the visit, students have the opportunity to learn more about their future careers in the allied health professions, dentistry, dental hygiene, medicine, nursing, pharmacy or public health. Students also speak with UNMC students in their declared programs and gain information and tips on how to be prepared to succeed at UNMC.
“The annual visit to UNMC is an outstanding opportunity for our future students to visualize themselves on campus, in their health profession training program, and as a future health care provider,” Carritt said.
“At the same time, it is an opportunity for faculty and staff across UNMC to demonstrate our support and commitment to making their dreams of providing health care in Nebraska's rural communities come true.”
While at UNMC, the students tour the campus, and listen to presentations on financial aid, housing and how to prepare academically to meet the rigors of a health professions education.
The students also learn about leadership across the health professions and stress relieving techniques.
