Dedication ceremony highlights recent meeting

Following its meeting, the Board gathered alongside CSC students and employees, as well as football fans and community members, to dedicate Beebe Stadium and Marshall Press Box. More than 100 people listened to remarks from Chadron State College President Randy Rhine, NSCS Chancellor Stan Carpenter and Chadron State Foundation President Marjean Terrell. Following the speeches, the three were joined to cut a ribbon by the Board of Trustees, as well as representatives of the Chadron State Foundation, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Adolfson & Peterson Construction, and BVH Architecture.

Before cutting the ribbon at Beebe Stadium, the Board of Trustees had its business meeting at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center. During the meeting, the Board approved updated organizational charts for the three state colleges, and an agreement with Accuplacer, a mathematics assessment tool that assists in placing incoming students. The Board also approved two internship agreements with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Eastern Wyoming College for CSC.

In other approvals, the Board granted support for the Chancellor to sign a contract to purchase a video board in the Chicoine Center. According to Board materials, the Chadron State Foundation secured approximately 95 percent of the video board’s estimated cost.

The Board also approved revisions to several policies, including those that deal with Personnel Information (5080), Student Criminal History Information (3001), Risk Management (7008), Contract Limitations and Exemptions (7015), Consulting Services (7016), and CSC Degree Programs (4160).

In addition to items for consent, the Board received updates about marketing and events, physical plants, expenditures, spring 2018 instructional loads, enrollment and graduation, and capital construction.

Four CSC grant applications were also approved, including Rover Mapping of Mars Geology, NASA Nebraska Space Grant Fellowships for students, 2018 Surveys for Regal Fritillary, and Nebraska Research Network in Functional Genomics.

Near the conclusion of the meeting, the Chancellor, three state college Presidents, and three Student Trustees all gave reports. Rhine’s report featured CSC student and employee accomplishments, including Phi Beta Lambda, the High Plains Herbarium, an exhibit in the Sandoz Center, athletic training, and student-athletes who earned academic honors in the football and volleyball programs.

The next Board meeting will be Nov. 15-16 in Wayne.
