CSC cowboys win bull riding, steer wrestling at Torrington
TORRINGTON, Wyo.–Chadron State College cowboys dominated the bull riding and also did well in steer wrestling at the Eastern Wyoming College rodeo in Torrington last weekend.
Ethan Lesiak, a CSC senior from Clarks, Nebraska, was the only bull rider to stay aboard until the eight-second buzzer sounded in both go-rounds. The judges awarded him 76 and 80 points.
Teammate Dakota Rice, a senior from Kellogg, Idaho, rode his first bull on Friday night, scoring 64 points. He did not stick his second bull, but still received second in the event. None of the remaining 26 contestants had a qualified ride on the Southwick Rodeo bulls.
Chadron State’s Devin Dibbern, a sophomore from Riverdale, Nebraska, won the steer wrestling with times of 6.1 and 5.7 seconds. He was second in the first go-round and won the second go-round.
Another CSC entry, Prestyn Novak of Newell, South Dakota, won the opening go-round, also in 5.7 seconds, but he failed to connect on his run in the finals.
Novak and Wyatt Tarver of Casper College also reached the finals in team roping, but they did not get a time on that run.
CSC’s Rowdy Moon of Sargent, Nebraska, who won the bareback riding at each of the last two Central Rocky Mountain Region rodeos, finished fifth last weekend with scores of 66 and 65 points.
Moon has ridden all but one of the 14 barebacks he’s drawn since joining the Chadron State team last fall.
The next rodeo in the region will be April 6-8 at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
