CHADRON – Chadron State College cowboy Rowdy Moon of Sargent won the bareback riding at the Laramie County Community College rodeo in Cheyenne last weekend as the competition in the Central Rocky Mountain Region resumed following about a four-month break.

Moon won both bareback go-rounds, scoring 77 and 75 points, and moved into third place in the regional standings for the season. He transferred from North Platte Community College last fall after qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo twice and winning the Great Plains Region’s bareback championship in 2016-17.

Also doing well for Chadron State at the LCCC rodeo was Prestyn Novak of Newell, South Dakota He and Wyatt Tarver of Casper College placed third in team roping with runs of 7.5 and 7.6 seconds. They were second in the first go-round and fourth in the championship go-round.

CSC’s Jayde Adkins of Broken Bow was among the 10 finalists in both barrel racing and breakaway roping, but she did not finish among the top six in either event. Her barrel racing times were 16.74 and 16.73 seconds. She caught her first calf in breakaway roping in 3.3 seconds, but missed during her second run.

Also, Jessica Applegarth of Yuba City, California, shared fifth and sixth in the first go-round of goat tying, but didn’t fare as well in the finals and was not among those earning points in the averages.

CSC cowboys Devin Dibbern of Riverdale, Nebraska, and Tori Huffman of Burwell were among the 10 steer wrestlers to make the finals, but neither had a time on their second runs. The next action for the CSC rodeo team members will be March 16-18 at Gillette College.
