Campos named September Student of the Month

Campos is a sophomore majoring in business administration with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) path accounting option.

Campos has tested her accounting skills through CSC’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), a career student business organization. At the 2018 State Leadership Conference, Campos placed third in Financial Analysis and Decision Making. She took the event to the National Leadership Conference and earned 10th place.

Campos said Project Strive/TRiO appealed to her before she began classes at CSC. As a first-generation student, she felt Project Strive/TRiO would guide her through college life.

“I wanted help with knowing how to survive or being prepared for college because I didn’t know what to expect. I thought it was going to be difficult to manage because of being away from home. It was out of my comfort zone,” Campos said.

Campos said Project Strive/TRiO serves as a home away from home.

“It is a place that I don’t have to stress about homework and college. The events are fun,” Campos said.

Campos said her adviser, Project Strive/TRiO Retention Specialist Amanda Lewin, is helpful in assisting her with checking out textbooks and informing her about the program’s events.

Other Project Strive/TRiO services Campos appreciates are FAFSA completion assistance and tutoring.

Lewin said she thinks Campos has a bright future.

“Jennifer is a very quiet and polite young woman. She works very hard in her classes, and I'm very proud of her accomplishments in PBL,” Lewin said.

After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, Campos said she would like to pursue a master’s degree or advance into her career field. She also said she would like to travel and see more of the world.

Chadron State College’s Project Strive/TRiO program, located in the lower level of the King Library, is an academic enrichment program committed to help students succeed. Project Strive also focuses on career exploration, cultural and social enrichment and self-awareness.
