LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees approved a contract for a Study Abroad Program in Cuba for Chadron State College during its meeting Jan. 16 in Lincoln.

According to board meeting materials, Chadron State program facilitators, along with a guide, will accompany a group of students for a nine-day intensive travel and education program to Cuba. The Essential Studies Program Capstone course aligns well with Chadron State’s Master Academic Plan Priority No. 1 because it heightens emphasis on study abroad opportunities that are high-impact learning practices and enhance student and faculty engagement.

The Board of Trustees also approved Chadron State’s contract with MBS Direct Corporation. MBS Direct provides CSC with a full-service online bookstore and the contract will go to June 30, 2019.

Capital construction projects, including the CSC Math Science renovation and addition, were approved for the 2019-21 biennium. Additionally, approval was granted by the Board to name the Foundation Suite in the Marshall Press Box at the Sports Complex to recognize the Wahlstrom family. The area will be named the Lee and Virginia Wahlstrom Family Foundation Suite.

The Board approved acceptance of two audits. The first basic financial audit report for fiscal years ending June 30, 2017 and 2016 was performed by the Auditor of Public Accounts. The second audit was performed by BKD for fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.

The meeting concluded with reports from each college’s Student Trustee and President. Chadron State President Randy Rhine spoke about the campus’ commitment to have diversity-related educational experiences that emphasize the value and importance of cultural enrichment.

The next Board of Trustees’ meeting is scheduled for April 19-20, 2018.
