Anxiety documentary to be shown April 30
CHADRON – The Chadron State College Dean’s Council, Public Relations Club and Project Strive/TRiO are collaborating to host special screenings of “Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety” at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday, April 30, in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the campus and community. To reserve seats, please call 308-432-6302 or email sfrench@csc.edu.
Each showing of the 56-minute documentary will be followed by an informative panel discussion with dialogue between counselors, community members and CSC employees.
According to press materials, “Angst” producers Scilla Andreen and Karin Gornick have one goal with their documentary: to start a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. Through candid interviews, “Angst” tells the stories of many kids and teens who discuss their anxiety and its impacts on their lives and relationships, as well as how they’ve found solutions and hope.
“Project Strive is excited to collaborate on this event. 'Angst' is a way to educate people about anxiety disorders. Many people do not understand anxiety or how people with anxiety cope each day. This documentary gives insight and may help people speak up and get the help that they might need,” said Jennifer Schaer, Project Strive/TRiO director.
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenge in the U.S., impacting 54 percent of females and 46 percent of males, with age seven being the median age of onset, according to the World Health Organization. While anxiety disorders are highly treatable, only one-third of those suffering receive treatment.
In addition to the viewings of “Angst,” the Public Relations Club will be providing May Day baskets around campus throughout finals week.
“Our goal with the May Day baskets is to encourage students to have a successful finals week and to show one another support. As students, we are all stressed and it’s nice to know that people care,” said Public Relations Club President Torri Brumbaugh.
