CHADRON – Local agriculture producers and Chadron State College students are invited to attend “Grazing Research and Cattle Management Through a Holistic Lens” Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Student Center. The program will feature Dr. Jason Rowntree, associate professor of Animal Science at Michigan State University.

Rowntree is an accredited Holistic Management Educator for the Savory Institute and an affiliate of the Center for Regional Food Systems, past chair of the Grassfed Exchange.

Coordinator of the event, Dr. Ron Bolze, said Rowntree plays a significant role in the international discussion on carbon sequestration through effective grazing management.

Rowntree’s discussion topics will include changes from a conventional cow-calf research facility to a lower input grazing and grass finishing operation, impacts of grazing management on the land, and impacts of grass finishing strategies on cattle, forage and carcass traits. He will also address changes in industry attitudes toward beef grass finishing and future considerations of grazing management and the marketplace.

The Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition (NGLC) and Nebraska Extension are sponsors of the event. Cost for the conference is $15 and includes the meal. The NGLC will cover the cost of student registrations. Pre-registration is required by all attendees for meal count. To register, contact Jack Arterburn with Nebraska Extension at 308-432-3373 by Nov. 9.

To learn more, contact Bolze at 308-432-6237 or rbolze@csc.edu.
