'Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind' opens Thursday

The show, intended for mature audiences, will be in the Black Box Theatre on the second floor of Memorial Hall at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16-18 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 19. “Too Much Light” by Greg Allen is an attempt to perform 30 plays, alternately humorous, poignant and thought provoking, within 60 minutes. The plays, performed in random order based on the audience shouting numbers on a wire, will involve crew members as well.

“This production is as much an experience as it is theatre and is not meant to be a purely passive experience. Many plays have varying levels of audience interaction and engagement. Each play has the potential to challenge how you feel, think, act, or what you believe to be true,” Cavin said.

Leo Haselhorst of Randolph, Neb., said the cast has planned for multiple contingencies based on audience members’ reactions and interactions with them.

“The show will change order every night. Also the experience begins before you even enter the theatre by engaging in pre-show activities. All plays have an element of truth, whether it’s a truth about a particular actor, a truth about the world at large, something political or something that’s current in the news,” Cavin said.

The cast, called Neo-Futurists, includes Wacey Gallegos of Ainsworth, Neb., Haselhorst, Jennaya Hill of Gordon, Neb., Samuel Thomas Martin of Hot Springs, S.D., Courtney Smith of Hampton, Neb., and Hannah Smith of Broken Bow, Neb.

Crew members include Taylor Thies of Rapid City, S.D., Jessica Steffen-Schepers of Sturgis, S.D., Natausha Holtz of Sidney, Neb., Brittney Peters of Rapid City, S.D., Shanie Hollenbeck of Estelline, S.D., Syerra Wycoff-Bagshaw of Falcon, Colo., Mickenzi Loyd of Big Piney, Wyo., Emily Parker of North Platte, Neb. and Jacob Wilson of St. Paul, Neb.
