Spring Daze events moved to Chicoine, due to weather forecast

CHADRON – The majority of Spring Daze activities will take place in the Chicoine Center Friday due to the weather forecast, according to Student Senate president Katrina Hurley. Activities for the annual Chadron State College student celebration will include mechanical bull riding and rubber check races.
A petting zoo will be set up in the Andrews parking lot from 3 to 5 p.m. From 5 to 6 p.m. students are invited to construct the world’s longest taco line in the Chicoine Center. Following the taco build, inflatables, carnival games, club and business booths will be set up in the Chicoine Center.
Saturday’s events include the spring football scrimmage, The Big Event and a barbeque in the Eagle Grille Food Court and a country concert by Maddie & Tae in the Nelson Physical Activity Center at 7 p.m.
Emily Still, president of the CSC Art Guild and coordinator of the art show from 3 to 7 p.m. on the mezzanine level of the Chicoine Center, anticipates entries including ceramics, painting, photography, drawing and glass.
Art professor Mary Donahue said the student-organized show is not juried and started as an alternative place to show the artwork not selected for the Art department’s juried All Student Art Show.
“It’s great the students do this in the historical tradition of the Salon de Refusés an 1863 show of artwork by French artists such as Courbet, Manet, and Pisarro whose work did not get into the Paris Salon,” Donahue said.
Friday concludes with the Mr. and Mrs. Spring Daze pageant in the Student Center Ballroom.
