Reproductions of U.S. founding documents on display in Sandoz Center

CHADRON – The exhibition, “Chartering Freedom” is now open at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center at Chadron State College.
The documents reproduced in this exhibition chronicle the creation of the Charters of Freedom: the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and their collective impact on events in the U.S. and the world. The exhibition features reproductions of the Charters of Freedom and other milestone documents that chronicle the conception, creation, and implementation of the Founding Fathers’ vision.
The exhibit, drawn from the holdings of the National Archives, a national network of federal archives, presidential libraries, and records centers, will be open through May 25.
Center Director Sarah Polak said in light of recent political discourse related to the Constitution, she felt it was a great time to bring in an exhibit about the history of the founding documents of our nation.
“We are pleased that, in partnership with the National Archives, we can share the history of these documents. One of the most striking things that visitors will notice about the exhibit is the copies of the original documents. Not only are the documents visually striking, but they are also ways to connect with the time in which they were written,” Polak said.
The Sandoz Center is open to the public from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Center is closed Sunday and college holidays. There is no admission charge for this exhibit. For more information about viewing hours or to arrange group visits, contact Polak at 308-432-6401 or spolak@csc.edu.
