LINCOLN and OMAHA – BVH Architecture earned two awards and two Best in Show nominations April 21, at the seventh Annual Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) ceremony in Des Moines, Iowa. The event was hosted by the International Interior Design Association Great Plains Chapter and included architectural and design firms from Nebraska and Iowa.

BVH was recognized for excellent design in education for Chadron State College’s Rangeland Lab.

Creative Director Mark Bacon, AIA, said each project in its own way elicits the values BVH profoundly believes in as a firm, pushing it to achieve design excellence.

“We are equally excited to share these awards with our collaborators and owners, who helped us execute the vision for these projects,” Bacon said.

Project team members were Dan Worth, AIA; Dennis Coudriet, AIA and Mark Bacon, AIA.

The CSC Rangeland Laboratory is located in the spacious southeast corner of the campus, and provides facilities for instructional, office and observation for the college’s rangeland, agriculture and wildlife programs.

According to a press release from BVH, the site organization is similar to traditional ranching facilities, aligning its structures along two axes, forming a natural windbreak while taking advantage of seasonal sun and natural topography.

The use of familiar materials such as metal-clad walls, cedar siding, board-formed concrete and the exposed wood structure lend life and cultural context to the facility’s roots in the ranching and agricultural tradition, according to BVH.
