Native American photography exhibit open in Sandoz Center this summer

CHADRON – “Faces from the Land: A Photographic Journey through Native America,” by Ben and Linda Marra is now on display in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center through Sept. 1.
The exhibit of 40 large color portraits of powwow dancers is accompanied by personal narratives describing the tribal significance of Native American regalia and dance compiled by Linda Marra. Ben Marra’s portraits show the colorful and intricate details of beadwork, fringed leather, ribbons and hairdressing.
The Marras’ work has been published in calendars, books and featured in numerous museums, national magazines and was included in the “Handbook of North American Indians” published by the Smithsonian Institution. According to their website, the Marras are dedicated to using the photographs to strengthen and perpetuate an appreciation for American Indian cultures.
The Sandoz Center is open to the public from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Center is closed Sunday and college holidays. There is no admission charge for this exhibit.
