Campus prepares for 57th Annual Scholastic Contest
CHADRON – Students from 43 area high schools will travel to Chadron State College Friday to compete in 43 tests ranging from agronomy to trigonometry.
The Eagle Cook-Off, at 11:15 a.m. in the Burkhiser Technology Complex, is open to the public. Teams of three students will have 15 minutes to prepare a meal for a panel of judges.
The Family and Consumer Science program is hosting an open house from 9 to 11 a.m. also in Burkhiser. Graduate Assistant Betel Weldemeskel said tours of the Child Development Center, Food Labs and outside Nature Explore Environment will be included as well as opportunities to meet FCS faculty and students.
Other hands-on competitions include simulated news reporting and a teaching presentation, according to the contest’s website.
Each senior who wins first place in an exam will be the recipient of a waiver of the in-state portion of tuition to CSC for both semesters of the 2017-2018 school year. Results can be viewed online.
Entertainment for competitors will include horse-drawn wagon rides, an interactive trailer of video games, dance lessons in the Student Center Ballroom and pool, ping-pong and board games in the Pit.
The Sandoz Center will have exhibits open for self-guided tours and three shows will be offered in the Planetarium. Outside activities will feature the “Human G-nome” scavenger hunt along the main sidewalks west of the Student and sand volleyball by the residence hall complex.
