Wind Symphony to tour Wyoming and Utah

CHADRON – Chadron State College students comprising the Wind Symphony will perform Thursday, April 7, at Casper College’s Wheeler Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Faculty member and director Dr. Sidney Shuler said the music department features a tour by instrumental and vocal groups in alternating years.

The program will include: “Overture to Candide” by Leonard Bernstein, arranged by Walter Beeler; “Serenity” by Ola Gjeilo; “Ghost Train” by Eric Whitacre, second movement, “At the Station,” and third movement, “The Motive Revolution;” selections from “Kiss Me Kate” by Cole Porter, arranged by John Moss; “Amazing Grace” by Frank Ticheli and “The Klaxon” by Henry Fillmore.

In addition to the Casper performance, the CSC Wind Symphony will attend a clinic by Scott Hagen, director of bands at the University of Utah April 9.

Also on April 9, CSC student musicians will attend a special Utah Symphony performance of Holst’s “The Planets”featuring NASA high-definition video footage of the solar system and Women of the Utah Symphony Chorus.

Other numbers will include Ligeti’s “Atmosphéres” and Scriabin’s “Poem of Ecstasy.” Hans Graf is the conductor.

Shuler is pleased the students will have the opportunity to see a world-class performance in addition to providing their own performances as a service to the region.
