The Big Event staff members presenting at national conference
CHADRON – Staff members of Chadron State College’s The Big Event team are scheduled to be key presenters at the One Big Thanks 2016 Conference, Feb. 4-7 in College Station, Texas, on the campus of Texas A&M. This is the fourth time in as many years that CSC TBE staff have presented at the conference.
Shaunda French, faculty adviser of The Big Event, and student co-directors Jessica Orose of Piedmont, South Dakota, and Alyssa Sanders of Potter, Nebraska, will represent Chadron State at the conference, which brings schools together to discuss service work. Other presenters include Mehran University and Stephen F. Austin State University.
Sanders, a communication arts major, views the invitation to speak as an honor.
“Being from a smaller school provides us with an opportunity to share what we do here at Chadron State that makes our Big Event a distinguished day of service,” said Sanders
Orose, a criminal justice major, is eagerly anticipating collaboration with other schools.
“I look forward to hearing new ideas and discussing strategies with other schools about what makes their Big Event successful.”
French hopes to show conference attendees from larger, populated areas that even small schools can have big success with The Big Event.
“The emphasis of our presentation is making a big difference in a small community. We are hoping to show schools that are just starting their Big Event that no matter your size, budget, etc., you can be successful and make a difference,” said French.
Last year’s The Big Event saw approximately 600 CSC students, faculty and staff volunteer for the annual day of service. Workers spanned across 80 job sites throughout Chadron and the surrounding area, participating in projects that ranged from trash removal to planting trees.
The Big Event returns to Chadron State April 23, 2016.
