Social Science Club and Student Senate to host political conference Tuesday
CHADRON – The Chadron State College Social Science Club and Student Senate will host "Unraveling the Political Puzzle," an informational political conference Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
According to Matthew Reader, vice president of the Social Science Club, the goal of the political event is to provide students and community members with information on the voting process, encourage students and the community to find their political voice and discuss the history of American politics.
The free event includes speakers, roundtable discussions and a key note speaker.
Frank Daley, executive director of the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission, will speak at 10 a.m. with his discussion “Dollars in Political Campaigns: Super PACs, Dark Money and Full Disclosure.”
At 11 a.m., Jeff Wells, professor of University of Nebraska-Kearney, will present “Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders and American Populism.”
A roundtable panel discussion will take place at 2 p.m. moderated by Dr. David Nesheim, interim director of assessment at CSC.
- S.Congressman Adrian Smith will speak at 3 p.m. aboutthe history of American democracy.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Chris Towler, professor of political science at Western Washington University, will speak at 7 p.m. His discussion “Right Wing Resurgence: Reactionary Conservatism in the Past, Present and Future” will also cover race and other social issues.
