CHADRON— The Sheldon Museum of Art exhibit “The Romance of the Moon: Science Fiction Invades Art” opens at Chadron State College in Memorial Hall’s Main Gallery Monday.

Founded in 1888, the Sheldon Art Museum holds more than 12,000 artworks in diverse media and is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The educational outreach program from the Sheldon Museum of Art travels statewide presenting works from the museum’s collection and teaching the importance of arts.

The collection explores themes in science fiction like abstraction, realism, hyperbole and humor. The exhibit will be open until March 29, is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Along with the display, the Sheldon Museum will be offering a free art education workshop Wednesday, March 2, in Memorial Hall from 10 a.m. to noon, featuring practical connections with classroom objectives and take-home curriculum resources. A public talk will follow the workshop at 12:15 p.m.

The goal of the workshop, led by specialists in museum education, art and curriculum, is to enhance the understanding and appreciation for arts, by providing direct engagement with the artwork and hands-on experience with materials and techniques.
