Senior artists' exhibit opens April 4

The 1920s Art Deco themed reception will be Friday, April 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. and will include hors d’oeuvres, refreshments, music and conversation with the artists. The artists encourage attendees to dress in 1920s attire, if possible. For more information, call 308-432-6317.

Artists displaying work are Phillip Colella of Gordon, Neb., Holli Schmitz of Valentine, Neb., Tauna Letcher of Hay Springs, Neb., Shyanne Foster of Ogallala, Neb., Taylor Cobb of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Stephanie Tarbett of Cody, Wyo.

Colella, originally from Chadron, will be graduating in December with a comprehensive major in graphic design. His works include graphic design, sculpture, painting and glass. Colella said the focus of his art is in the areas of science fiction, technology and the natural world.

Schmitz will be graduating in May with a comprehensive major in art with a graphic design option. Her works in the show will include graphic design, printmaking, stained glass and a few others. Schmitz said her work is inspired by the people around her and the things that mean the most to them.

Letcher will graduate with a comprehensive major in art with a graphic design option in May. Her works in the show will include graphic design, painting, printmaking and other crafts. She said her pieces are inspired by sports, nature, cultural motifs and self-reflection.

Foster will graduate in May 2017 with an emphasis in art education K-12. Her works in the show will include sculptures made from wire, plastic foam and found objects, in addition to batik, film photography, watercolor, graphite drawings and handcrafted jewelry. Foster’s pieces are inspired by color, flora and fauna, and tribal design.

Cobb will graduate in May with an emphasis in graphic design. Her works in the show include graphic design, sculpture, hand built and thrown ceramics, blown glass and printmaking. Cobb said her pieces are inspired by color, nature, mythology, feminine and Bohemian styles.

Tarbett will graduate in December with an emphasis in graphic design. The works entered to the show include graphic design, printmaking, digital photography and film photography. She said her pieces are inspired by nature, texture and Greek mythology.
