CHADRON – Faculty and staff at Chadron State College are gearing up for the annual Signing Day events for incoming freshmen and transfer students. This year, the Orientation, Transition and Retention (OTR) team, in charge of planning these events will offer freshmen events April 15, April 26, June 17 and June 27. The first transfer event was April 8 and another is planned for June 10.

The April 15 event is filled with over 90 students, parents and guests planning to attend from Nebraska, Colorado, South Dakota and Wyoming. Registration for the April 29 and June events is still open. Registration closes one week before each event and students must register for a Signing Day in advance to attend.

“Freshmen and transfer students often have different questions, concerns and requirements when it comes to registering for classes, according to Tamara Toomey, Student Transition And Registration Team (START) adviser and OTR co-chair. “By providing each group their own event, we hope to better serve each group’s needs.”

Students are asked to register for the event by logging into their MyCSC accounts and following the Ready to Register link to the online form provided on their To Do list. The information on the form is used to assist Student Services and the faculty advisers in enrolling the student for the fall term and it also registers the student and two guests for New Student Orientation Aug. 18-19.

Danielle Lecher, director of market development and OTR co-chair, said attending both events helps new students arrive prepared for their first year at CSC.

“We highly encourage students to attend a Signing Day. A lot of activity occurs at CSC over the summer: financial aid is awarded, students’ bills are generated, roommate and housing information is sent and students are enrolling and making changes to their schedules. By attending a Signing Day, students receive information about how to take care of business, meet faculty advisers from their academic area of interest and learn about important processes and timelines, and know where to go for help,” Lecher said.

Students who cannot attend a Signing Day can choose the alternative option on the registration form at csc.edu/readytoregister/orientation/.

The events are designed to provide incoming students with the opportunity to make connections with CSC faculty, staff and other students as well as and the college’s processes, according to Lisa Stein, admissions director and OTR co-chair.

We want them to begin feeling like they are a part of something, feeling like they are earning their wings and becoming Eagles,” Stein said.
