CHADRON – The spring 2016 Graves Lecture Series at Chadron State College continues March 1 with Dr. John Buttiglieri, assistant professor of education. In his lecture, “Gifted Education and the Underrepresentation of Minorities,” he will discuss gifted education and a few of the reasons for a lack of minorities in gifted education programs.

He works with assessment and teaches a variety of freshman and sophomore-level education courses including multimedia technology, introduction to teaching and elementary and middle school math.

All Graves Lecture Series presentations are in Reta King Library’s Room 111 at 7 p.m. Attendance is free. A recording of the lecture series may also be viewed at CSC's YouTube page.

The series conitnues March 22 when Terrie Wood, a CSC alumna and business faculty member, presents her discussion “Business Success: Pain or Pleasure?”  Wood’s lecture explores the conflicting values that deter individuals from success, how to identify these conflicting values and how to progress forward with confidence.

She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from CSC. Wood, whose first teaching job was at CSC from 1989 to 1997, is responsible for several economics courses and also teaches an entrepreneurship course.

April 5, Dr. Janice Haynes, assistant professor in the Social and Communication Arts department, will be the final Graves Lecture Series speaker presenting “Romance and Marriage Plots: Restoration for Family in Narratives of Single Mothers.” Haynes plans to discuss the restoration of family through romance and marriage plots centered on single mothers. Some themes will include: children’s desire for a “normal family,” transformations of desire for marriage and family and the fragility of single mothers.

She earned her master’s in mass communication from the University of Houston and her doctorate in communication studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
