Fall music performance schedule announced

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Music department has a full schedule of events planned this semester. All are free admission to the public, with the exception of the Nov. 9 concert by Todd Green. For a complete list of live streaming programs see www.chadronstate.tv.

The Chadron State College Community Choir rehearses every Thursday. Choir practice runs from 7 to 9 p.m. in Memorial Hall’s Room 126 and will run through the final concert Nov. 13. For choir details, contact Una Taylor at utaylor@csc.edu or 308-432-6484.

CSC Campus and Community Band rehearsals take place every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Memorial Hall’s Room 104 until the final concert Dec. 2. For band details, contact Sid Shuler sshuler@csc.edu or Pam Shuler pshuler@csc.edu or 308-431-6322.

Singers and musicians of all ages and experience levels are welcome in these two groups.

CSC Accompanist Bobby Pace’s piano recital kicks off public performances Sunday, Sept. 11, in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium at 3 p.m. Pace will feature works by composers Joseph Haydn and Frédéric Chopin.

Guest artist Dr. Margaret Miller, professor of viola at Colorado State University, will join CSC faculty members Pam Shuler and Brooks Hafey for a Chamber Music Recital Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Mari Sandoz Chicoine Atrium at 7 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 14, the CSC Wind Symphony led by Dr. Sidney Shuler will perform a variety of written music in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Men’s Choir Day will take place Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Mari Sandoz Chicoine Atrium. Dr. Joel Schreuder, music professor, will spend the day directing a choral clinic for male high school singers from the region.

Sunday, Nov. 6, in the Chadron Arts Center, the Men’s Ensemble and Arioso will perform at 3 p.m. Led by Schreuder and Dr. Una Taylor, music professor and department chair, the ensembles will perform a program of widely varied music, both with piano and a cappella.

The CSC Concert Choir and the Chadron Community Choir will perform music in the Chadron Arts Center Sunday, Nov. 13, at 3 p.m. Schreuder and Taylor will lead the combined vocal ensemble.

Led by music faculty members Dr. Sid Shuler and Pam Shuler, CSC’s Wind Symphony and Community Band will perform in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature a variety of symphonic music, including an arrangement of Shostakovich’s 2nd piano concerto performed by Brooks Hafey.

Directed by assistant professors Dr. McKay Tebbs and Brooks Hafey, the Keyboard and Guitar Ensemble will perform Saturday, Dec. 3, in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium at 7 p.m.

The Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. Led by Dr. Michael Stephens, music professor, and Schreuder, CSC’s jazz ensemble will perform a program of jazz standards as well as other popular arrangements.

The fall schedule concludes with a Holiday Concert Thursday, Dec. 8, in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The concert will comprise of all the Music department’s ensembles.
