CSC men earn two firsts, one second at Sheridan rodeo

CSC’s  Chasen Cole and Cordale Martin were the only bull riders at the rodeo to stay aboard both of their bulls while placing first and second overall, respectively, in the event.

In addition, Prestyn Novak won the long go-round and tied for top honors in the championship go-round of tie down roping to win that event.

Cole, a sophomore from Hermosa, South Dakota, was second in the first go-round of bull riding with 66 points and won Sunday’s championship session with 74 points.

Martin, a senior from Panhandle, Texas, was close behind in both go-rounds. He earned 62 points in the first session, good for third place, and 72 in the finals for second place.   

A junior from Newell, South Dakota, Novak caught and tied his calves in 10.4 and 10.2 seconds, respectively, while wrapping up first place overall by a healthy margin.

Only three other Chadron State contestants placed in the top 10 of the first go-round of their events to reach the championship go-round. They are Colin Dibbern of Riverdale, Nebraska, in saddle bronc riding, Lance Neuerburg of Kersey, Colorado, in tie down roping and Cole Retchless of Bridgeport in team roping.

Both Dibbern and Neuerburg finished fourth and Retchless was 10^th in the opening go-rounds. None of them scored in the finals.

The Sheridan College cowboys won the men’s team title and Gillette College won the women’s title. Lamar College, located in southeastern Colorado, will host this weekend’s rodeo in the Central Rocky Mountain Region.
