The Chadron State College rodeo contestants didn’t have as spectacular a weekend as they had at Eastern Wyoming College two weeks ago, but CSC entries won or shared first in three events and the men were second in the team standings at the Gillette College rodeo this past weekend.

The Chadron State men scored 495 points.  Gillette men won the team title at their home rodeo with 630 points, but CSC has a 1,155-point lead in the Central Rocky Mountain Region team standings with three rodeos remaining this spring.

The CSC cowboys tallied 815 points at the rodeo in Torrington.

Chadron State’s Clayton Van Aken of Descanso, California, widened his lead in tie down roping in the region by winning the event at Gillette.  He placed fourth in the first go-round in 11.0 seconds flat and won the final session on Sunday in 10.9 seconds.

Van Aken and Trey Yates of Laramie County Community College also were fifth in team roping with times of 8.4 and 11.5 seconds.

Chadron State’s John Kissack, a native of Gillette, and Shelby Winchell of Scottsbluff shared first and second in the averages of their favorite events at the Gillette rodeo.  Kissack scored 63 and 72 points in bareback riding while Winchell won the first go-round of goat tying in 7.1 seconds and was third in the second go-round in 7.6.

Winchell has 900 points in the region’s goat tying standings while her closest rival has 470.

Another CSC bareback rider, Nate McFadden of Dunning, Nebraska, was fourth at Gillette with 63 and 71 points on his two rides.  Kissack is second and McFadden is third in the regional standings.

Also, Colby Anders of Bayard, Nebraska, placed third in steer wrestling with runs of 6.7 and 13.3 seconds, the brother and sister team of Clint and Brooke Nelson of Philip, South Dakota, was fourth in team roping in 7.1 and 12.6 seconds and Jed Rice of Kellogg, Idaho, was fifth in saddle bronc riding for CSC.

The next rodeo in the region will be at Colorado State University at Fort Collins on April 8-10.
