CHADRON – With a pair of seniors from the eastern portion of the Nebraska Sandhills leading the way, the Chadron State College cowboys won the team title at the Colorado State University rodeo in Fort Collins this past weekend.

Nate McFadden of Elsmere, Nebraska, won the bareback riding by scoring 77 and 75 points on his two trips out of the chute. He won the first go-round and was second in the finals on Sunday.

Lane Day of Bartlett, Nebraska, was the other pacesetter as the CSC cowboys increased their lead some more in the Central Rocky Mountain Region team standings.

Day was third in steer wrestling with times of 5.4 and 5.5 seconds and fifth in tie down roping in 11.2 and 12.3 seconds. Earning points in two events helped him finish third in the all-around cowboy standings.

The Chadron State men scored 405 points, 15 more than runner-up Eastern Wyoming College, to take the team championship and build their regional lead to 1,365 points.

The CSC cowboys now have 3,995 points for the season. Gillette College is next with 2,630 and Eastern Wyoming is third with 2,587.50.

This was the third team title for the Chadron State men in eight rodeos this school year. They also have been the second place team three times and third once.

John Kissack, a junior from Gillette, Wyoming, also placed high for CSC, finishing third in bareback riding with 71 and 60 points. In addition, freshman Colin Dibbern of Riverdale, Nebraska, was fifth in saddle bronc riding with 68 and 48 points.

Two Chadron State cowgirls placed high among the 87 entries in breakaway roping.

Jessie Miller, a graduate student from Woodland Park, Colorado, placed second with times of 2.5 and 3.7 seconds and senior Kadi McFadden, Nate’s sister, was fourth in 3.1 and 3.9 seconds.

Miller was second in the opening go-round and third in the finals, and was the event’s leading money-winner with $852.60. McFadden tied for 10th in the first session and placed fourth in the finals.

Casper College will stage its rodeo this weekend. The regular season will conclude at the University of Wyoming April 29-May 1.
