CHADRON – Chadron Mayor Paris Fisher signed a proclamation April 6 declaring April 10-16 as “The Week of the Young Child.”

Chadron State College Family and Consumer Sciences professor Dr. Kim Madsen said the proclamation from the National Association for the Education was proposed by the Family and Consumer Sciences and the Education department’s early childhood programs.

“The proclamation is on behalf of child care providers, parents and educators who believe in the importance of supporting the quality of care and education for young children across the state and nation. The important annual message of this nationwide campaign is, ‘Quality care and education of young children should happen each and every day as part of the daily routine of experiences.’ We celebrate during this week, but continue it every week throughout the year,” Madsen said.

CSC students enrolled in FCS courses will focus on nature-based play activities with the children this week incorporating math and science, Madsen said. FCS majors will be conducting activities with CSC’s Child Development Center children Wednesday in addition to the “Growing Up Wild” training they attended Monday.
