56th Annual Scholastic Day set for Friday
CHADRON – Over 1,400 students from 57 Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota high schools will converge on the Chadron State College campus for the 56th annual Scholastic Contest Friday.
CSC student volunteers serve as guides assisting the contestants in finding the buildings and rooms for their tests between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The Eagle Cook-Off, which takes place at 11:15 a.m. in the Burkhiser foods lab, is an annual favorite and as the major hands-on competition, draws a crowd of spectators.
Activities for the students at CSC to test their academic talents include horse-drawn wagon rides, dance lessons, the human genome scavenger hunt and a game trailer.
Each senior who wins first place in a contest receives a Scholastic Achievement Award for in-state tuition at CSC for the fall and spring semesters of the following academic year.
Medals will be awarded to the top three places in each test. Certificates of Merit will be awarded to those finishing in the top 25 percent of each test, and a plaque will be presented to the top school of each of the five divisions. All awards are mailed to the winners the week following the contest.
Results are available online and will be official on Tuesday, April 5.
