2016 Ivy Day royalty crowned
CHADRON – Chadron State College recognized graduating seniors at the institution’s traditional Ivy Day ceremony Friday. The annual event, which has occurred at CSC every year since 1919, is sponsored by the Blue Key and Cardinal Key national honor societies.
Ivy Day royalty elected by the student body were queen Joslynn VanDerslice of Columbus, Neb., and king Kale Lytle of Wall, S.D. VanDerslice was recognized as the outstanding senior in Geoscience. Lytle was honored as the top senior in Marketing.
The queen’s attendants were Kaylee Gaswick of Chadron, Leah Uhlir of Sidney, Neb., Jaycee Housh of Hay Springs, Neb., and Chancy Miller of Clarks, Neb.
The king’s attendants were Garrett Westman of Gurley, Neb., Bryson Hellmuth of Hershey, Neb., Jaden Lacy of Hastings, Neb., and Jake Palmer of Alliance, Neb.
Student orators were Uhlir and Lytle. The faculty greeter was Todd Jamison, a member of the Business Academy faculty.
The Platinum Eagle awards were presented to Lane Swedberg of Wallace, Neb., and Jessica Orose of Rapid City, S.D. The Platinum Eagle, considered to be the highest honor a CSC student can receive, is presented annually to one male and one female for distinguished leadership and service.
The winners of the royalty competition and Platinum Eagle were just some of the outstanding summer and winter 2015 and spring 2016 CSC graduates who received accolades during Ivy Day. More than 100 students were recognized with certificates of merit as outstanding students in their primary fields of study or presented with other honors.
Special recognition was also given to more than 80 students who graduated with honors.
