Social Work conference about sexual assault Oct. 14

CHADRON – Chadron State College’s Social Work 435 class, with support from CSC administration, will be hosting“Not Asking for It: A Workshop on Sexual Assault” Wednesday, Oct. 14, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Registration is not required, but is encouraged. Details can be seen online at: notaskingforit.eventzilla.net.

The workshop will be open to participants until 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided from 11 to noon with a vegetarian option.

The students of Social Work 435 have planned the focus of the workshop to be about educating the community and students about sexual assault, and what an individual can do who needs to report an assault, according to Bruce Hoem, social work faculty member.

Presentations include Brian Van Brunt, a nationally recognized speaker. He is the past-president of the American College Counseling Association, president-elect of the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association, current president of the School and College Organization for Prevention Educators and the managing editor for Student Affairs eNews. He has a doctoral degree in counseling supervision and education.

Other speakers include representatives from the Chadron Community Hospital, the Chadron Police Department, the Dawes County Sheriff’s Office and Project Strive TRiO.
