Students enrolled in the Project Strive/TRiO program will find the staff members and study space in a new location as the semester begins.

Jen Schaer, program director, said her staff is excited to see all the ways the new space in the lower level of the King Library can be used to facilitate academic and social needs of students enrolled in the program.

During the Thanksgiving break, nine Project Strive/TRiO students helped paint the former children’s curriculum room in advance of the move which took place over winter break.

Walls dividing the large, open space into individual offices was completed Jan. 6. A Feb. 25 Open House is scheduled.

Dr. Pat Beu, senior director of student affairs, said the new location will increase the visibility of the program which is a tremendous resource for CSC students who come from low income or homes where parents did not receive a higher education.

The new location provides convenient access to excellent resources such as tutoring, the information technology (IT) helpdesk, the Learning Commons and Career Services and Internships, according to Jon Hansen, vice president of marketing and student enrollment.

Project Strive/TRiO is a federally-funded by TRiO-Student Support Services (SSS), a program of the U.S. Department of Education. CSC is currently in the process of preparing an application to renew the five-year grant which funds the program.

Program staff offer support, encouragement and free services designed to motivate and support qualified students in their academic pursuits with the goal of graduation.
